Rules Of Engagement
This year, Rules of Engagement is bringing creative minds into contact with mentors and experts from the design world who can help them with their search and design activities. They will be focusing on concepts/activities that are vital for everyone: eating, sleeping, relaxation and work. The challenge is how to improve, reinvent and/or redesign the environment and objects related to each of these activities. The recurring thread running through the creation process is the question of what actually characterises design. What are the rules of engagement? What defines design? We start with 5 rules of engagement, which are five characteristics that we consider important in any design: sustainability, functionality, aesthetics, adaptation and attainability. But are they actually important? Are these the elements that characterise design, or do the rules of engagement change throughout the design and production process? Rules of Engagement is a project by Werkplaats Grof, Giel Dedeurwaerder & Brent Neve and Denkgelag.
